Areas of Practice

TRIALS - CIRCUIT COURT / DISTRICT COURT

From investigation and pre-charging stages to judge or jury trials, I’ve successfully represented clients facing the most serious offenses in Maryland. My clients have heard juries say “not guilty” in cases ranging from drug distribution to attempted murder to handgun possession in courtrooms across the state.

PAROLE AND PRISON REPRESENTATION

Parole in Maryland can be lengthy and confusing process. I walk clients through each step, preparing them for their hearing and submitting information to help tell their story. I also assist clients who have issues in prison related to good time/diminution credits.

POST-CONVICTION / CORAM NOBIS

I’ve won release for four clients serving life sentences, won re-sentencing for three clients serving life without parole, and obtained new trials or reduced sentences for many others. I also represent clients in appeals and coram nobis, with a focus on immigration related matters.

JUVENILE/WAIVER/TRANSFER AND JUVENILE RESTORATION ACT

I have represented juveniles charged as adults - before, during, and after trial. New Maryland laws - including the Juvenile Restoration Act - are a critical and necessary opportunity for inmates who were sentenced as juveniles to win release.

SENTENCE MODIFICATION

Maryland judges have broad authority to reduce a sentence, provided the appropriate motion is filed and heard in a timely fashion. Convincing a judge to reduce a sentence previously imposed takes time, skill, and creativity. This work includes filing under Health General Article 8-505 and 8-507.

COMPASSIONATE RELEASE, DRUG TREATMENT RELEASE, CONVICTION INTEGRITY/REVIEW

I handle requests for medical parole and compassionate release. I also represent inmates who are asking prosecutors to review the integrity of convictions in Baltimore City, Prince George’s County, and other jurisdictions.
